hello,

[i follow both, the user and the devel list for ivtv, and i'm posting
this question on the devel list as the user list has low to no traffic]

i watch tv with a pvr-350 on an amd athlon64 with a matrox g400. the
system runs debian/unstable with a selfcompiled kernel 2.6.12.2, ivtv
0.3.6z and mythtv 0.18.1.

watching tv works perfectly now, but at setting up the remote, i ran
into some troubles.

the wiki article at http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=Remotes
mentiones that recent 2.6 kernels contain a module called ir-kbd-i2c,
and that the lirc modules are depreciated.

i couldn't find the ir-kbd-i2c module, so i built the lirc modules, and
successfully loaded them (lirc-dev and lirc-i2c).

maybe the wiki article could be extended to explain how to do it with
lirc as well, or some information regarding ir-kbd-i2c should be added.

for some reason, 'modprobe lirc-i2c' loads the bttv driver as well. i
could remove it from my kernel, but i wonder whether this would break
even more or rather fix my problem...

output of 'modprobe lirc-i2c' is:

lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 61
tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 48139, rev = K257, serial# = 7672850
tveeprom: tuner = Philips FM1216 ME MK3 (idx = 57, type = 38)
tveeprom: tuner fmt = PAL(B/G) PAL(I) SECAM(L/L) PAL(D/K) (eeprom = 0x74, v4l2
= 0x00400e17)
tveeprom: audio_processor = CS5331 (type = 9)
ivtv: i2c attach [client=tveeprom[50],ok]
bttv: driver version 0.9.15 loaded
bttv: using 8 buffers with 2080k (520 pages) each for capture
lirc_i2c: chip found @ 0x18 (Hauppauge IR)
ivtv: i2c attach [client=Hauppauge IR,ok]
lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin:sample_rate: 10

afterwards i start lircd in the non-daemon mode:
'lircd -n -d /dev/lirc0' and after that i start irw to test the
functionality of my remote.

unfortunately neither irw nor lircd give any output when pressing on my
remote.

the receiver/aerial is directly in front of the remote, so it must
receive the signals by the remote.

do you have any suggestions?

bye
 jonas
