i did get it pretty close, but i found xine's timing
stuff difficult to work with.

the only real issue to be overcome is how to keep the
audio and video in sync, when the time it takes to
decode video is variable. the OSD stuff works pretty
well, as does getting the clock from the card

if anyone wants to take over development, i'd be happy
to send them what i've got, but i just don't have the
time to work on it anymore
