John,

A little more on the mplayer issues. I know that this has been talked about
to some degree on the list but I want to let you know about the scaling
issues with mplayer. Whan I use the following command, "mplayer -fs -vo xv
-vf scale=720:-3,expand=720:480 %s", the picture appears to scale properly
but only displays on the top half of my TV screen. If I drop the "-fs"
option I can see the whole picture, but it plays in a window and I end up
seeing the caption bar at the top and part of the window frame at the
bottom. Perhaps you can try the above mplayer command and see what you get,
if you haven't already done so. I would be curious to see if it functions
properly for you.

Also, with respect to xine, I would like to be able to control the scaling
better but I don't find the same kind of options as I do in mplayer. I have
been able to acheive decent scaling by using the "-r anamorphic" option (for
my 16:9 aspect ratio videos), however, a blue line appears in the middle of
the black bars at the top and bottom of the picture on the TV screen. I'm
not sure if this is a xine issue or an issue with the X driver (0.10.4).
Just thought it might be worth mentioning.

I am in NTSC land. Also, do you have any command line option variations that
I should try with mplayer to see if I can get a better scaled picture in
full screen mode?

Thanks,
Jim
