OK I solved my issue and hope this might help others.
  Volume control for was added in version 0.3.6s.
   Before this time I think the driver was ignoring volume setting requests.
   I use MythTv and in the Recording Profiles I had my volume set to
70%. (Don't know why it is here and not in the backend setup?)

  From Talking with Bry he said that 90% should be the same as before.
  I found 90% to be slightly lower then before, and 100% worked great for me.
