I have a diamondmm PVR-550 and tested. Thanks!

Not quite, but very close. Here's what happens on mine:
I cold boot and load the patched cx25840 driver and I get nothing but an
orange/red screen, so as it stands this patch is a no go. On a whim I
unloaded the driver, reversed the patch and loaded 0.3.7k and my sound
works fabulous! So I think it can't be this easy, surely someone didn't
accidently fix sound in the diamondmm550, so I shutdown the machine and
cold boot it again. The unpatched driver does not have sound! I shut the
machine down again, load, then unload the patched driver while viewing
the orange/red screen) and load the unpatched driver again: voila,
sound!

So, apparently your patch turns something on (or off) that was
preventing the sound. I'll fiddle with it tonight and see if I can iron
it out.
