Normally the last component in the directory you point
xmkmf to is xc.
For me i build against xorg or XFree86 sources and use
something like

xmkmf ~/X/XF86430/xc

I am not sure what packages you need to download to
get this though.

The code will build against Xorg or XFree86 and the
built binary should run against either. 
The latest code ins SVN is 0.10.6 so there is no
benefit in building this compared with using the
0.10.6 downloads at the moment unless you need a 64bit
driver.
