I tracked the error down: Until recently, I have always been using the tuner, tveeprom, and tda9887 modules supplied by the kernel. Since I decided to use the updated Gentoo ebuild for ivtv-0.3.8, I started using the ivtv versions of these modules. This, however, led to the worse quality mentioned above, at least wrt. radio recordings. (I think the video quality has also improved a bit, but I'm not sure.) Today I switched to the kernel modules, and radio recordings are fine again, even with 0.3.8. I suspect that either the tuner module or the tda9887 module causes the error. I didn't do further tests, though. If you want, I can do it in the next days.
