IVTV TikiWiki : PVR150-500Firmware <http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=PVR150-500Firmware> indicates that HcwFalcn.rom (pvr-150mce firmware) should be symlinked to ivtv-fw-enc.bin. I already have an ivtv-fw-enc.bin recommended by the IVTV WIKI for my pvr-350. These encoder firmwares clearly are different (md5sum). Is there no way to specify a firmware file for each card or can there be only one (highlander style)? I wouldn't worry about this but I'm getting card specific problems while watching live tv or recordings while they are still recording.

I wouldn't symlink anything. Just put all the firmware together in one location. Mine (for a PVR500) looks like this :
$ ls -la /lib/modules
<snip>
-rwxr-xr-x   1 root root 376836 Jun 10 14:31 HcwFalcn.rom
-rwxr-xr-x   1 root root  14264 Jun 10 14:31 HcwMakoA.ROM
-rw-r--r--   1 root root 262144 Jun 10 14:33 ivtv-fw-enc.bin

You only really either HcwFalcn.rom or ivvtv-fw-enc.bin. Also, no renaming or symlinks are required, you can just use the ivtv_efw module parameter.

On my 350/500 system I'm using the recommended firmware that I originally got when I only had a 350. then I just tossed the Hcw roms in there from the driver figuring the encoder can just use the firmware I used with the 350. It seems to work fine minus the actual problems in the drivers that are pretty much fixed now on the 150's for me with todays SVN. So I just leave it alone.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/src$ ll /lib/modules/
total 916
drwxr-xr-x  7 root root   4096 Sep 24 11:50 2.6.8-2-k7
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 376836 Aug 27 01:38 HcwFalcn.rom
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  14264 Aug 27 01:38 HcwMakoA.ROM
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 262144 Aug 27 01:38 ivtv-fw-dec.bin
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 262144 Aug 27 01:38 ivtv-fw-enc.bin

But more specifically, this is what gets used.

ab75947ef1b086e26f9b08e628baa02e /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin (recommended from 350)
3a4803384f749d644ee1f1ca9dcb12fa  /lib/modules/HcwMakoA.ROM (from 500 disk)
