Are you using a digital or analogue camera? I would expect that it will capture a digital still image capture, which you'd have to transfer digitally. You'd really need to look at the documentation that came with your camera. I belive most manufacturers call real zoom "optical zoom", and software zoom "digital zoom". This doesn't usually affect the size of the capture, it'll still be the same size (and reslution), just with one area zoomed in on.
