I have a PVR-150 and find that I do not get sound on some channels, with the picture quality varying from no color to downright dreadful depending on the channel. I can view the majority of channels okay.
Now, I know that the problem channels aren't great quality (e.g. from viewing with my TV/cable box before adding in the card), but I do not think that it is a signal strength issue since I can get sound, color, and reasonable quality images if I use GBPVR with the latest prerelease drivers from SHSpvr.com (the 2.0.35.23297_prerelease zip file from http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=9008.0). If I used the older windows drivers (I don't remember the revision number) then I found I had the same problem on GBPVR (i.e. no sound), but with different channels to those I have problems with under ivtv. Given that the 2.0.35.23297 release is intended to fix sound problems on some PVR-150 cards, then I was hoping that the firmware had been updated, but it doesn't seem to have been (i.e. the HcwFalcn.rom/ivtv-fw-enc.bin has the same MD5SUM and there's no HcwMakoA.ROM file: there are "B" and "C" versions but I don't know if I should use them, although they don't look to have been updated recently anyway). The only file that looks to have been updated is the hcwPP2.sys file. I'm hoping that there's some simple thing I can do (or it only needs a small change to ivtv). My system is running gentoo linux with the 2.6.13 (gentoo-r3) kernel (manually compiled). I have tried both 0.4.0 and the latest "0.4.1" tar file and have the same problem in both. The output of dmesg is (for 0.4.1; 0.4.0 is essentially the same bar the version strings): ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ==================== ivtv: version 0.4.1 (development snapshot compiled on Wed Oct 26 20:38:32 2005) loading ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 SMP PENTIUM4 gcc-3.3 ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info ivtv: between the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines when ivtv: mailing the ivtv-devel mailinglist. ivtv0: Autodetected WinTV PVR 150 card (iTVC16 based) ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:04.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 ivtv0: Unreasonably low latency timer, setting to 64 (was 32) tveeprom: ivtv version tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 26582, rev = C299, serial# = 8440358 tveeprom: tuner = TCL 2002N 5H (idx = 99, type = 50) tveeprom: tuner fmt = NTSC(M) (eeprom = 0x08, v4l2 = 0x00001000) tveeprom: audio processor = CX25843 (type = 25) tveeprom: decoder processor = CX25843 (type = 1e) ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=tveeprom, addr=50] tuner (ivtv): chip found at addr 0xc2 i2c-bus ivtv i2c driver #0 ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=(tuner unset), addr=61] cx25840 0-0044: cx25843-23 found @ 0x88 (ivtv i2c driver #0) cx25840 0-0044: loaded /lib/modules/HcwMakoA.ROM firmware (14264 bytes) ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=cx25840, addr=44] wm8775 0-001b: chip found @ 0x36 (ivtv i2c driver #0) ivtv0: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=wm8775, addr=1b] ivtv0: loading /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin ivtv0: Encoder revision: 0x02050032 ivtv0: Allocate DMA encoder MPEG stream: 128 x 32768 buffers (4096KB total) ivtv0: Allocate DMA encoder YUV stream: 194 x 10800 buffers (2048KB total) ivtv0: Allocate DMA encoder VBI stream: 120 x 17472 buffers (2048KB total) ivtv0: Allocate DMA encoder PCM audio stream: 455 x 4608 buffers (2048KB total) tuner: type set to 50 (TCL 2002N) by ivtv i2c driver #0 ivtv0: Initialized WinTV PVR 150, card #0 ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ==================== My /etc/modules.d/ivtv file looks like: cat /etc/modules.d/ivtv alias char-major-81 videodev alias char-major-81-0 ivtv alias char-major-81-1 ivtv alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c #add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c and I have in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 nvidia snd_ens1371 ivtv lirc_i2c and 'lspci -v' gives, for the PVR-150 0000:02:04.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01) Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 0801 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17 Memory at f4000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M] Capabilities: <available only to root> I have a P4 chip with an Intel motherboard (D865GBF) with an Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI card for audio and a MSI graphics card (nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x]).
