You should compare the SimplyMepis hotplug and f/w loading support with
the equivalent Debian support. A good start would be the versions of the
udev, hotplug coldplug packages.
Perhaps they have changed the location or something. On my sid system I
have:
$ grep FIRMWARE_DIRS -r /lib/udev/
/lib/udev/hotplug.functions:FIRMWARE_DIRS='/lib/firmware
/usr/local/lib/firmware /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware'
/lib/udev/firmware.agent:for DIR in $FIRMWARE_DIRS; do
On sarge I think the firmware.agent functionality is in /etc/hotplug but
the locations are the same.
