I use a hirschmann (GHV20E), they are expensive but work well.
I have serveral tunercards and tv's connected and i have no problems
anymore

I also tried several cheaper amplifiers (+36db !?!?!, Eur. 20,= )
but they made it worse

good quality coax and connectors do help a lot too.
