SMP in itself aint that bad, some cases turning it on fixes some problems
in the kenrel, specially preempt on PPC, in UP it's more than unstable
while SMP make it stable for quite many.
What happens if you underclock your system when using HT?
Not that I think it would make a difference, but you never know...
