Well, that's unfortunate. I finally got post-0.4.0 SVN working (r3146  
in fact) last night on a 2.6.15 kernel last night. I've decided to  
live with manually loading the drivers for now.

It probably makes no difference at all, I have hard links to the  
firmware files in every firmware directory that hotplug could  
possibly look in. I did this after getting quite frustrated, having  
tried every combination of individual copies, symlinks, and hard  
links, to no avail. That was the end state of my experimentation and  
I haven't touched it since.
