There is a check for 2.4 or 2.6 kernel and there are two different 
Makefiles one for 2.6 (default one) and one for 2.4. This applies for 0.4, 
0.5 and 0.6 as far as I have seen. As I don't use 2.4, I can't comfirm if 
there is something wrong on the Makefile2.4 or not.

The current documentation (think they can be a bit outdated) don't say 
anything that you have to use GCC3.
