That's OK, I seem to have gotten around the problem. There is a change 
made to the system's initial ramdisk in Jarod's how-to, and reversing 
this change seems to have fixed my problem. My guess is that this change 
has some ivtv component loading too soon, but I'm not good enough yet 
with this stuff to say what exactly. But for now I will live without the 
initial boot screens  coming through the PVR-350's tv-out and just enjoy 
the fact that it seems to be loading properly. Thank you all for helping 
me out, hopefully I can help somebody else down the line...
