The ivtv driver is for the Hauppauge PVR series boards (Specifically the 150, 250, 350, and 500), and hardware MPEG encoder cards with similar hardware architecture (such as the Avermedia M179.) It is not for "dumb" frame capture cards without MPEG encoders such as those based on the BT (now Conexant) 848 and 878 chipsets.
