After pouring over posts here and elsewhere, I am finally going to
accept the fact that I need some help here. I have a Hauppauge
WintTV-PVR 150 tuner card that seems to be loading fine with gentoo
2.6.15-gentoo-r7 and ivtv-0.4.2, but I don't get any video (only
snow), and limited audio.

Here's my relevent kernel options:
<M> BT848 Video For Linux
<M> SAA6588 Radio Chip RDS decoder support on BT848 cards
<M> Conexant 2388x (bt878 successor) support
<M> Add support for additional audio chipsets
<M> Add support for additional video chipsets

When I try to read from /dev/v4l/video0 I get snow + crackling audio.
On some channels I can make out most of the audio. Sometimes, when I
switch to PAL (I'm in the US, so I should be using NTSC) I get grainy
video+audio. I have tried playing with pltune-iu.pl, altering
frequencies, channel ranges, etc. to no avail. I have even tried
palying with the /etc/modules.d/ivtv parameters, and setting tuner=57
or 58 or 68 or others I have seen suggested doesn't alter the output.
However, setting the tunner to 55 (which is a PAL setup I believe)
again gives me grainy video+audio. I went to Hauppauge's website and
downloaded the most recent firmware. I even downloaded, build, and
installed the ivtv-0.4.3 and ivtv-vns trunk with no change in behavior
(the output from ivtv init is pretty much the same). Nothing really
alters the output.

At this point, someone could convince me it was a hardware issue,
except for 1) this card is < 60 days old, and 2) the card came from my
win32 machine, so I know it works perfectly on WinXP.

Phew. Any help would be appreciated. Finally, sorry for all the
data/text in this post, but I thought better safe than sorry.

- Alex
