As far as I can tell there's nothing you can do about this effect  
(callled "overscan") when playing videos or recorded programs.  
However, you can adjust the MythTV user interface. With MythTV 0.18.x  
you go to Utilities/Setup > Setup > Appearance and adjust the GUI  
width, height, and X/Y offsets. There are also some settings under  
Utilities/Setup > Setup > TV Settings > Playback. I think it's the  
Overscan screen; but note that these adjust the on-screen display  
(OSD), not the program content.

This is largely from memory, so you may have to poke around a bit to  
find what you're looking for. Hope it helps.
