Thanks for your help again. There was a step I missed in the configuration of MythTV which was causing the problem. The backend is working now. Now I just need to get the front-end running! I don't suppose you know anything about the Hauppauge MediaMVP and the MVPMC project???

If you can capture fine with 'cat' then I'd suspect mythtv. Are you using the packages from debian-multimedia.org? Does your mythtv user have permission to read/write the ivtv device?
