I would tend to agree wtih you, however The driver appears to indicate that it *has* found and loaded the firmware:
ivtv0: loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (262144 bytes)
the sizes seem to match my /lib/firmware:

One thing thats interesting is that I don't actually have a firmware.agent file.. (FC5 seems to have done away with all the hotplug stuff in favor of udev and HAL). Still it seems to be at least loading the decoder firmware properly...
Any help would be appreciated, I'll poke at the src a bit.
