I haven't heard anything back on this: maybe it's because I posted it
on Sunday night, or maybe I was too wordy.  In any case, I'm going to
try again with a shorter version:

I think I'm doing everything right, and yet I still can't tune into
most channels using my PVR 500 card on my amd64 gentoo
system--everything is filled with static.  Has anyone else seen this
problem?
