FWIW there is a pre-release of what will eventually be uploaded to
Debian at http://www.hellion.org.uk/ivtv/debian/

It is unfortunately pending on getting the driver working with X.org 7.1
in unstable which appears to need some significant changes :-( There is
a slightly more up to date version than on the website in SVN at
http://necrotic.deadbeast.net/svn/xorg-x11/trunk/driver/xserver-xorg-video-ivtvdev/
it compiles and no longer segfaults but the screen remains black...

You're running testing, and hence X.org 7.0, right?
