Sounds like the "tinny" audio symptoms, though I've never heard of it
affecting purely tuner inputs. Have you tried to apply the patch referenced 
here:

If the patch helps, it would be interesting to know that this problem also
may affect tuner inputs as well as those using sound line-in ...
