Upgrading to 0.8.2 did not resolve this problem, however, I rebuilt my system with fc6 (and thus a newer version of the 2.6.18 kernel) and the problem somehow went away. Unfortunately I can't say for certain if it was the newer kernel in fc6 or some other issue. I'm once again a very happy ivtv user. Thanks.
