My old saa7134 tv card died so I bought a PVR-350 for my freevo box.
It runs Debian 2.6.15-22-386
so I installed ivtv 0.4.9
I have dreadful video and no audio, on the basic cat /dev/video0 > /my.mpg
Critically in dmesg I have
Jan 26 12:53:24 localhost kernel: [ 1191.586394] tuner: type set to 1 (Philips
PAL_I (FI1246 and compatibles)) by insmod option
Jan 26 12:53:24 localhost kernel: [ 1191.586550] tuner: The type=<n> insmod
option will go away soon.
Jan 26 12:53:24 localhost kernel: [ 1191.586654] tuner: Please use the
tuner=<n> option provided by
Jan 26 12:53:24 localhost kernel: [ 1191.586782] tuner: tv aard core driver
(bttv, saa7134, ...) instead.

from the wiki
http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Troubleshooting#PVR-350_with_Philips_FM1216ME_MK5_tuner
PVR-350 with Philips FM1216ME MK5 tuner
When you have a PVR-350 with this tuner add the below to /etc/modprobe.conf
option ivtv tuner=38

but when I tried to force option ivtv tuner=38
through /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
or making a file /etc/modprobe.d/ivtv
I get "ignoring bad line"
and dmesg shows
Jan 26 12:53:25 localhost kernel: [ 1193.381277] tuner: type already set to 1,
ignoring request for 38

does any Debian user know how to make this use tuner=38?

Liz
