Beny -- thanks for the suggestion... I tried it (with the -k option to preserve mkinitrd's working directory) and it didn't work. I checked the temp dir, and the two .fw files don't appear anywhere, so it seems that mkinitrd is not picking them up for some reason. (actually, there are no .fw files for anything in there)
