I've been trying to diagnose this problem for quite a while, I haven't located anything of use on -devel or -user, and futher googling has not produced any results.
I have a MythTV setup with a single PVR-500. I'm running 2.6.22 with the in-tree ivtv driver, it gives the following output in dmesg: cx25840 0-0044: loaded v4l-cx25840.fw firmware (16382 bytes) wm8775 0-001b: chip found @ 0x36 (ivtv i2c driver #0) tuner 0-0061: type set to 57 (Philips FQ1236A MK4) ivtv0: Registered device video0 for encoder MPEG (4 MB) ivtv0: Registered device video32 for encoder YUV (2 MB) ivtv0: Registered device vbi0 for encoder VBI (1 MB) ivtv0: Registered device video24 for encoder PCM audio (1 MB) ivtv0: Registered device radio0 for encoder radio ivtv0: Initialized WinTV PVR 500 (unit #1), card #0 ivtv: ====================== NEXT CARD ====================== ivtv1: Autodetected Hauppauge card (cx23416 based) ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:04:09.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 19 ivtv1: loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (4014631776 bytes) ivtv1: Encoder revision: 0x02060039 tuner 1-0043: chip found @ 0x86 (ivtv i2c driver #1) tda9887 1-0043: tda988[5/6/7] found @ 0x43 (tuner) tuner 1-0061: chip found @ 0xc2 (ivtv i2c driver #1) cx25840 1-0044: cx25843-24 found @ 0x88 (ivtv i2c driver #1) cx25840 1-0044: loaded v4l-cx25840.fw firmware (16382 bytes) wm8775 1-001b: chip found @ 0x36 (ivtv i2c driver #1) tveeprom 1-0050: Hauppauge model 23552, rev E692, serial# 10235852 tveeprom 1-0050: tuner model is Philips FQ1236A MK4 (idx 92, type 57) tveeprom 1-0050: TV standards NTSC(M) (eeprom 0x08) tveeprom 1-0050: second tuner model is Philips TEA5768HL FM Radio (idx 101, type 62) tveeprom 1-0050: audio processor is CX25843 (idx 37) tveeprom 1-0050: decoder processor is CX25843 (idx 30) tveeprom 1-0050: has radio, has no IR receiver, has no IR transmitter ivtv1: Correcting tveeprom data: no radio present on second unit ivtv1: Autodetected WinTV PVR 500 (unit #2) tuner 1-0061: type set to 57 (Philips FQ1236A MK4) ivtv1: Registered device video1 for encoder MPEG (4 MB) ivtv1: Registered device video33 for encoder YUV (2 MB) ivtv1: Registered device vbi1 for encoder VBI (1 MB) ivtv1: Registered device video25 for encoder PCM audio (1 MB) ivtv1: Initialized WinTV PVR 500 (unit #2), card #1 ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ==================== I've checked the sticker on one of the tin-cans on the PVR-500, and the tuner is detected correctly. I am experiencing two (what I believe are separate, but may not be) problems with both tuners of my PVR-500 1) The quality of the lower channels (1-6 or so) from my *cable* provider is very poor, when compared to upper channels from the *same* provider. Examples (captured with cat /dev/video1): poor quality: http://staticwave.ca/temp/test1mpg good quality: http;//staticwave.ca/temp/test2.mpg 2) The alignment of video capture is not correct, the image is shifted slightly up and to the right. Example (captured using cat /dev/video1) http://staticwave.ca/temp/test3.mpg As you can see in the video, there is a black bar on the left of the video, and a smaller one on the bottom of the video. These bars appear on *all* channels, I simply chose this specific one to show it clearly. So my questions come down to: 1) What is wrong with my video quality, since they're from the same source, and the higher channels are fine? Is there something wrong with my wiring that is causing the issue, or is it the card, or the driver? 2) Is it possible to adjust the video capture so that I no longer have the black bars? Is it a card problem? Is it a driver problem? Thanks to the list for all your help! -- Gabriel A. Devenyi B.Eng.
