Hi,

I have a new 16:9 monitor.

What is the best way to configure ivtv for this? Can I get ivtv to
create 16:9-optimized output video, where 16:9 shows fill the whole
thing, but 4:3 shows have "black bars" on the sides?

That would be ideal, because right now, I have ivtv set at 720x576 and
16:9 shows have black bars on the bottom and top, while 4:3 shows fill
the whole thing. I guess this means less quality for 16:9 shows, right?

ivtvctl used to have a setting for configuring aspect ratio (-c
aspect=?), but alas, no more. http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Ivtvctl_old
I also looked for an aspect-ratio setting in v4l2-ctl but found none.

Is this more of a mythtv question? I'm thinking it can't be because then
mythtv would have to constantly be monitoring the input mpg and change
aspect ratios dynamically e.g. as programming changes, commercials come
and go, etc...

I also tried configuring ivtv to capture still at 576 lines, but at a
width = 576 / (16/9) = 1024, but that seems not to be possible.

$ v4l2-ctl -v width=1024,height=576
ioctl: VIDIOC_S_FMT
$ v4l2-ctl -V | grep Width
         Width/Height  : 720/576

Instead I experimented with a width of 720 but less height. Still, I get
black on top/bottom for 16:9 shows and 4:3 shows fill the whole thing.

So right now, in mythtv, I need to manually toggle apsect-ratio
overrides when I switch channels or when a channel changes aspect ratio.
With my old 4:3 screen, the current situation was perfect. 16:9 shows
have black top+bottom and 4:3 shows fill the whole thing.

What is the way to go about this? Thanks for your help

Peter
