No, I do believe I have a dual core processor. The boot that doesn't
hang was booted with both nosmp and noht as kernel parameters, but noht
is not a valid kernel parameter, according to
http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt

If I boot without "nosmp" there are two entries here, but with, there is
only one:
