I noticed that with my Hauppauge wintv PVR 150, I can't change the channels in mplayer because i can't open it in TV mode. So I made a little program using SDL that I think is useful.
You can grab it at: ftp://paulguy.rh.rit.edu/ivtvremote.tar.bz2 Just make and make install as root to install it then to run it just do ivtvremote at a command line. Once it's started, to use it just push up and down to surf channels or type out a number. If you want to enter a 1 or 2 digit number you have to add the 0s yourself. If you decide you don't want to change channels or you made a mistake, let it sit for 5 seconds and it'll return to normal.
