Hi All.

My machine runs Mythbuntu 8.04 + all updtes (Kernel 2.6.24-17-generic)
+ Linux video capture interface v2.00 + ivtv version 1.3.0.

When booting the system sees the DVICO cards correctly, but on
executing "sudo modprobe ivtv", syslog just shows the following:

kernel: [28116.036539] inux video capture interface: v2.00
kernel: [28116.060478] ivtv: Start initialization, version1.3.0
kernel: [28166.060731] ivtv: End initialization

and as you can see modprobe does not load the ivtv device firmware as
it used too, or should.

I have multiple DVICO Dual Digital 4 or my other unit the DVICO NANO.
(idVendor 0x0fe9, idProduct 0xdb78, bcdDevice eb.bo.), using just one
or more devices doesn't change this "not loading firmware" problem.

I have placed the correct firmware in all the following places in an
effort to get it to load without success.
/lib64/firmware/
/lib64/firmware/2.6.24-17-generic/
/lib/firmware/
/lib/firmware/2.6.24-17-generic/

Prior to 2.6.24 everything loaded and run successfully by simply
issuing a modprobe ivtv.

I have tried looking thru the /etc/udev rules, the linux Documentation/
dvb (old now) etc. without seeing HOW or WHAT causes modprobe to load
the firmware correctly. In reading the last two days all the doco I
can find applicable to the subject it is supposed to be controlled/
activated by a udev rules, but I have no such rule in /etc/udev/
rules.d/ nor it is mentioned in the /etc/udev/udev.conf files, other
than to say it is in ./rules.d/80-programs.rules: Load firmware on
demand.

So where exactly is firmware suppose to reside?

What is the exact mechanism for loading firmware into a ivtv device
(step by step please so I can discover why my system is not woring
correctly)?

Why doesn't "modprobe ivtv" load the DCIVO firmware?

Another control/functionality of other loaders I need to be aware of?

Can someone kindly please offer a solution to my problems of getting
the ivtv firmware loading correctly?

Much thanks.
Grahame
