You just might not have the driver, what happens when you try "modinfo cx18"? If you don't have it installed, there's more information on how to get it here: http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Cx18 Or you might want to try a newer distro like Fedora 11 (I checked and it has the cx18 driver). Fedora 9 reached it's end of life just a few days ago so you won't be receiving any more security updates. Also, although running "grep cx18" appears to hang the terminal, that's expected behavior. grep is just waiting for data from the standard input (notice that when you type something like "I like the cx18 driver" and press enter it repeats it back to you).
