Yeah, the mxl5005s has a pretty messy RF profile with regards to
finding the optimal tuning conditions that work properly for both
strong and weak signals.  It's not too surprising to find that
adjusting the gain could yield different results.

Can you please provide the SNR data for the both values of the
qam_gain (so I can see if you've got a strong signal or a weak one?).
In other words, do an azap, save the results, then change the qam_gain
and do another azap and save the results.
