I've got mythtv working great from a pvr perspective, but now I'm trying
to get dvd functionality going without much luck. I've got a fairly
slow CPU (details below) with a PVR-350. Currently I'm forced to run
ogle, xine or mplayer out via x11 because no matter what I try xvinfo
can only report

xvinfo
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
 no adaptors present

Video playback is choppy and can't keep up with audio, even if I use
-framdrop etc. My X installation claims that I should be able to
support Xvideo.

grep XV /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) Loading extension XVideo
(II) Loading extension XVideo-MotionCompensation

And mplayer is compiled with xv support
mplayer -vo help

Available video output drivers:

xover General X11 driver for overlay capable video output
drivers

I've tried encoding them to various formats (mp3, mpeg, avi) and tried
direct playback from the HDD instead of the DVD. All IDE devices have
DMA enabled. I've also seen various posts on sites regarding direct
output to the pvr from mplayer, but wasn't quite ready to start patching
mplayer without some advise.

Today I tried switching from KDE to twm with no luck on performance.
The video is still choppy and gets to the point where the audio keeps
moving ahead faster or gets so far ahead it just dies. I've done quite
a few of the suggestings on the video.html speed reference page, all
with no luck.

Can anyone offer some suggestions? Sorry for such a verbose posting but
I wanted to make sure I got the most info in as possible. I'm sure I've
left something off.
