The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India has decided to award the MAHARISHI PATANJALI AWARD-2005 to the eminent Yogasana master, Yogasana Ratna Dr ASANA ANDIAPPAN of Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  Dr Andiappan, a veteran in the Tamil Nadu Yoga field has also been nominated as the Vice President of the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) in the health ministry.
This double honour is a just reward for Dr Andiappan’s 60 years of Yoga teaching through the Asana Andiappan Yoga Centre in Chennai that has branches all over Tamil Nadu and conducts courses in Yoga through the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and the MGR deemed university. 
Dr Andiappan, a student of Bangalore Sundaram and Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri has carved a niche for himself in the Yoga World through his dedicated propagation of Yogasanas to the Tamil speaking people of Tamil Nadu and other countries. He has written numerous books on Yoga and shot to fame with his popular TV series on Yoga that is broadcast by the SUN TV channel all over the world. 
Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani and Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani have on behalf of the worldwide Gitananda Yoga family, ICYER, Yoganjali Natyalayam and Pondicherry Yogasana Association congratulated Dr Andiappan on this honour and have wished him the very best in his mission of propagating the Yoga teaching of Tirumoolar and other Tamil Siddhas throughout the world. 
Pondicherry Yogasana Association also thanks the honorable minister for health, Dr Anbumani Ramadas on cognizing Dr Andiappan’s role and for bestowing this timely honour on a senior statesman of the Yoga Family.
