Adoption of many nodes from one document into another leads to an

When attempting to adopt a number of nodes from a source document in to a
destination document one eventually gets an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException.
The error seems correlated to the size of the nodes being adopted (i.e. it
happens faster if the nodes are large, slower if they are smaller in size).
