Will be relied upon to design and deliver stable, maintainable software that is operationally sound. The hired candidate will help us identify new technologies in the industry and bring them to bear against our many challenges and technologies, from rich-media handheld applications to Web 2.0 tools to large-scale data systems. Responsibilities of Application Architect : Engaging and challenging requirements while designing solutions based on deep technical knowledge of web and database architectures. Leading a team and implementing practices such as peer code reviews. Setting high level design objectives, and reviewing and critiquing software designs proposed by senior developers. Writing technical documentation and introducing standard practices. Participating in the implementation of critical pieces of code. Requirements for Application Architect : Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent Extremely strong fundamentals and analytical abilities Experience designing and building complex customer-facing applications. Taste for simplicity and elegance in technical design Experience leading small teams, establishing development practices, and mentoring individuals Expertise in several programming languages such as C++ or Java as well as OO design 5+ years of experience with server-side Java technologies and major application servers Strong SQL and data modeling skills, as well as real-world experience with commercial RDMBS. Bonus points: Experience with Oracle. SQL and PL/SQL wizardry Fluency in scripting languages such as Python or Ruby.
