However, we do use OO Perl in some systems and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Depending on projects and priorities, there may be periods of time where work in Perl becomes our primary focus. Would like candidates content to work with both languages as needed. Not just looking for java technologies and web development but we would like to see experience with some of the other technologies and on backend systems”. Job Description: Work as a senior member of a systems development team with primary technical responsibility for the architectural design and implementation of subsystems in support of clients document processing applications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Required: • Leads architectural design of entire subsystem-level tasks. • Technical expert for electronic content creation and delivery architecture and high-level design. • Writes, tests, debugs and implements application software, including performance and capacity analysis/tuning. • Leads project level testing efforts. • Brings technology to the business through research, conferences, etc. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the development of system requirements and high-level design. • Participate regularly in the inspection of requirements, design work and test plans. • Provide guidance for production activities and crisis management. • Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE/SKILLS Required: • 5+ years of architectural/high-level design experience with large-scale, complex n-tier scalable systems in a 24x7 production environment. • 5+ years experience in Java including multi-threaded applications. • 5+ years experience developing web applications. This includes experience with HTML, JSP (Struts 2 or similar framework), and JavaScript. • 2+ years experience using C/C++. • 3+ years experience working with XML, using DTDs and Schemas to define XML structures, using a variety of parsers, using XPath and XSLT to modify XML documents. • 3+ years experience working with relational databases, managing connections. • Effective execution working in a distributed team model, including successful consensus-building. • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. • Capable of functioning independently and as part of a team. Preferred: • 5+ years experience using Unix/Linux. • 3+ years experience using shell scripts. • 2+ years experience using Perl. • 2+ years experience using MySQL and Oracle. • 2+ years experience using XPath and XQuery. • Experience with Restlet or Play Frameworks. • Experience with Apache Pivot. • Experience working with image formats including TIFF and JPG. • Experience working with PDFs. • Experience working with video and audio formats. • Experience with Cloud Storage. • Knowledge of ProQuest’s product lines and systems.
