Job Title: VMware and Storage Administrator

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

At least two years of extensive hands-on experience with VMware vSphere v5
(v5.5 preferred) and VMware vCenter Server v5 including, but not limited
to: installation, configuration, management, and capacity and performance
analysis of both ESXi and vCenter Server.

Demonstrated knowledge of VMware best practices and industry standards
related to server virtualization. This includes CPU and memory allocation
best practices in a virtualized environment to ensure efficient operation
of the host applications without over-taxing the underlying hardware
resources.

Experience with c7000 series HP blade chassis using various interconnect
components and multiple generations of HP blades, including chassis
mid-plane architecture and Virtual Connect software.

Familiarity with HP virtual storage arrays, SAN management appliances
(Command View) and SAN fabrics (Brocade switches).

Experience creating and managing zones on fiber channel switches (according
to industry best practices).

Experience with backups and restores in a virtual environment, including
familiarity with cloud services and IaaS, disaster recovery and business
continuity..

Experience with an enterprise-class backup and recover solution such as
Bakbone NetVault.

Knowledge of operating systems including: Red Hat Enterprise Linux and
Windows Server 2008/2012

Knowledge of common vulnerabilities in Unix/Linux and Windows operating
systems, and how to minimize those vulnerabilities through proper security
configuration and/or additional software.

Ability to maintain a Best Practices approach to system installation,
maintenance, and security posture in a production environment.

Ability to acquire considerable knowledge of the higher education system
and the function of institutions of higher learning.

Familiarity with major ERP products such as Peoplesoft Finance, Workday
HRS, and Ellucian Banner Student is a plus.



RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists IT staff in administrative support for our VMware vSphere 5.x
server virtualization infrastructure, including HP blade hardware
installation, vCenter configuration, and SAN storage allocation according
to established University IT standards and practices.

Assists IT staff with Storage Area Network administration, including volume
creation and presentation, performance monitoring, and data snapshot and
cloning operations.

Adheres to standards and procedures for disaster recovery documentation.
Maintains a library of recovery support and business resumption procedures.

Assists in installation and administration of server virtualization
platforms for resiliency of services for disaster recovery and business
continuity.

Works with project teams and IT staff to ensure stability, functionality,
and integrity of the new ERP administrative applications such as Banner
Student Information, Peoplesoft Finance, and Workday Human Resources (SaaS).

Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working
relationships with the Institutions administrators, faculty and staff,
government and private agencies, in order to accomplish the objectives of
the project and the Information Technology Division.

Maintains system and network logs as necessary to identify potential
security threats or attacks/probes on IT systems.

Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working
relationships with university faculty, administration, staff, government,
and private agencies and/or the public in order to accomplish the
objectives of the project.

Performs other functions consistent with the job title as necessary and as
directed by the Team Lead for the Enterprise Technology and Integration
team.
