jabberd2 does not provide MUC component (yet).
You are probably talking about mu-conference component, and this
question should be directed to mu-conference mailing list.
You'd have to extend the storage plugin API with support for
persistent storage. Presumably the new functionality would be optional
so the different storage types could be extended/updated individually...
