Hi, I just upgraded my Ubuntu machine, and noticed that in Ubuntu 7.10, JabRef 2.2 has become available in the Multiverse repository. Here's the page for the package:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/tex/jabref I believe they rely on the work of Gregor Herrmann with the Debian package for JabRef.
