Dear users and developers,

We are planning to launch a student project to release a revised
version of JabRef, namely JabRef 3, based on state-of-the-art
technologies such as JavaFX and Java 8. Apart from the technical
upgrade (replacing Swing/AWT + Java6 with JavaFX + Java8) and cleanup
(e.g., separate the user interface from the logic), we also plan to
add new features and fixing various bugs. Moreover, we plan to port
improvements made by JabRef forks back into JabRef (e.g., see the
docear project).

The student project at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, consists
of 6 to 12 persons working for 400 hours in the period of October 2015
to September 2016. For German readers, more information is available
at
http://www.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/studium/studierende/bsc-studiengaenge/softwaretechnik/studienprojekte/anbieter-infos-index.html.

To form the supervising and steering team, we need customers and
supervisors. The customer ensures that the final JabRef 3 is in a
shape he desires, especially regarding new features and fixes of bugs.
The tasks are specifying requirements, reviewing an offer, reviewing
the requirements specification, and reviewing deliverables.

Does someone volunteer to push the next steps of JabRef development by
taking over the role of the customer or of a supervisor?

Cheers,

Oliver and Simon
