When you run JabRef 2.8, you don't need the plugin, since this
functionality is included. The 2.8 version isn't supposed to load this
plugin at all, but to be sure, you should try to remove it and run
JabRef again to make sure you are using the correct one.

To make sure the autodetection is run properly, you can also try to
delete the related information in your JabRef preferences. Open the
file "~/.java/.userPrefs/net/sf/jabref/prefs.xml" (if it's the same on
Mac as on Linux) and locate these lines:

  <entry key="ooExecutablePath"
value="/opt/libreoffice3.5/program/soffice.bin"/>
  <entry key="ooJurtPath" value="/opt/libreoffice3.5/ure/share/java"/>
  <entry key="ooPath" value="/opt/openoffice.org3"/>

Their settings will of course be different, but try to just remove
these lines and run JabRef again, trying to autoconnect.
