I must admit, in this case (Jabref) I have always just used the .jar file, 
however, presuming you don’t have git installed, there is a ‘download snapshot' 
button in the sourcefourge webpage, as for turning that into .jar file, not 
sure sorry.

I could have sworn that Jabref used to have ‘prior versions’ on their downloads 
page. Now it seems they only have 2.10 and the Beta version.
