Oliver,

   Also, there are some security issues with the 6.x series (I run openjdk
here) and a bunch of quick patches to the 7.x series. The most current
release (at least for Slackware-14.1) is openjdk-7u79_b14 (as of last Friday
when I ran my weekly check for updated packages).

   So, my thought is to stay with the most current version series.
