I'm running Debian Wheezy. Sometime in the course of upgrading from
JabRef 2.8 to 2.11, I lost the ability to use nano to display .txt files
in /storage/jabref/notes/, although I can use xpdf to display .pdf files
in /storage/jabref/docs/.

In File, Database properties, I have set the General File directory as
/storage/jabref. It seems the docs subdirectory is accessed but not the
notes subdirectory.

In Options, Preferences, External programs, Manage external file types I
have set xpdf to display .pdf files and nano to display .txt files.

Whether I use F4 or File, +, to browse for a text file in
/storage/jabref/notes, nothing happens. In the latter case, being unable
to find the file, it just creates a new .txt file there with same name.

This problem seems specific to JabRef paths, for
$ nano /storage/jabref/notes/<file>.txt
displays a text file without problem.
