haven't tested, but my idea for underlining a certain author would be:
from:
\begin{author}\format[AuthorFirstAbbrLastCommas,HTMLChars]{\author}\end{author}
to:
\begin{author}\format[AuthorFirstAbbrLastCommas,HTMLChars,Replace("Doe
J,<u>Doe J<//u>"),]{\author}\end{author}
Underlining always the first author would probably require to call the
{\author} two times in different ways. But I don't know whether this
is possible.
