First I replaced SVN 1.5.6 by 1.6.0, then I made some changes and 
committed these, 1.6.0 seemed to work well. But after I replaced the 
device files and wanted to commit these the 'out of memory' condition 
appeared. This was during the file transmission phase, about the 250th 
of the 300 files.
I suppose there is a memory leak in SVN.

I'll (try to!) be more conservative and stay with 1.5.6 for now.
