BTW I seldomly use a bootloader, but in a specific project I use 
TinyBootloader. It is small (max 100 words), supports quite a number of 
popular PICs (16Fs, 18Fs), and doesn't require a special switch (acts on 
reset).     See http://www.etc.ugal.ro/cchiculita/software/picbootloader.htm
I have written (not published yet) a simple commandline-interface 
program working under eComStation(OS/2), Linux and Windows. It currently 
supports only for the 16F87/88. But all works fine.

Looking forward to your extensions and docs of the USB libs.
